How to Get to Calvi
fly into rome (ciampino or fiumicino airports)

renting a car (or coordinating with someone who plans to) is ideal.
We recommend contacting Mia Martin, the world’s greatest tour coordinator, dear friend, and fabulous Art Monastery collaborator. She is the founder of Cartolina Tours, which specializes in tours of Italy for Americans. She can book your flights, your rental car, your hotel, and even organize a tour for those of you who would like to see other parts of Italy while you’re here.

From the Airport
take the a1 north and get off at the Magliano Sabina exit.
at the stop sign at the end of the exit, turn left.
look for a blue sign pointing to the right labeled “Calvi dell’Umbria.”
This is called the Passatore (though it isn’t labelled). Take until it ends
in a T-intersection. Turn right, following the sign to Calvi.
Continue to follow the signs to Calvi (Left at the following two forks).

If you’re up for the adventure that is the italian train system
take the train from the airport to Civita Castellana (15 minutes from Calvi)
or Orte (25 minutes from Calvi).
you can buy tickets at the automated machines or from the ticket agent
(they almost always speak enough English to figure out what you need).
Call us when you find out what time your train is arriving and we will
send the fabulous and generous Paul Jarocki, who speaks Italian and has
offered to be the shuttle guy. Watch out because he’s very charming.

What to Bring
phrasebook- unless you are traveling with an Italian speaker, bring a phrasebook or at least download some italian lessons and study on the plane. Calvi is a town of just 1600 people. Two of them speak English. (Yes, they are both invited to the wedding.) In general, the people of this town are totally willing to play charades and figure out what you’re trying to communicate. It also means SO much to them if you know just a few words in their language.

Warm Clothes- We expect it to be stunning weather during the day- sunny and mid70s- but in the evening it cools down and these old buildings tend to get chilly. bring slippers. They are nice to wear on the plane too.

Euros - There are ATM and money changing opportunities at the airports. Make use of those because the only ATM in Calvi only works with Italian banks. Most agriturismos and restaurants in town take credit cards, but the most central cafe does not.

European Cell Phone - It is really handy to have a cell phone, as most places don’t have pay phones. You can rent a cell phone in recharge pre-paid minutes almost anywhere (even Calvi!). Mia can make recommendations about this.

Our Registry
You know how people pick charities to donate to for their weddings instead of registering for gifts? Well, we’re doing that and the charity we’re pointing you toward is the one we’re starting, our living dream, the lifeblood of the next 20 years of our life, if not more.
Please Donate to the Art Monastery Project!

Alternatively, We have a WishList of items that we need for our new home.
IF you can think of a friend who works at Temperpedic, for example, and you facilitated a donation of a bunch of mattresses to the Art Monastery (tax deductible for them, plus we would publicize their donation), it would be a profoundly amazing wedding gift to us.
Please take a look at our WishList.
