Betsy to speak to Yale Women of SF ~ October 4, 2012

 

I am really honored that I’ve been asked to speak to the Yale Women of SF! Description of the event is below.

American visual artist Betsy McCall co-founded the Art Monastery Project in San Francisco, and is currently leading the Project’s pilot site, Art Monastery Italia. This international community of artists in residence at a historic monastery outside Rome draws on the collaborative and intentional traditions of monastic life and applies them to art-making and creative endeavor. Betsy will discuss her work establishing and developing an international arts non-profit focused on creativity, the art-making process, and the inner life of the artist. We are happy to let you know that Betsy will be joined by special guest Phoebe Jevtovic Rosquist, an accomplished Soprano specializing in Baroque music, who will give a short performance after the talk.

Space is limited; reservations are first come first served. Tickets are $20 at the door.

Guests of Yale alumnae are welcome to participate.

 

About Betsy McCall

Betsy is an American visual artist whose investigations of sacred geometries in paint and video have been exhibited from San Francisco to Amsterdam. She is also an internationally ranked synchronized swimmer and was a founding member of San Francisco Tsunami Synchronized Swimming. She was previously Editor of Publications at Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the world-renowned museum of Buffalo, New York, and founded Shizknits, an innovative small business developing knitted accessories and custom sweaters. Betsy has degrees from Yale University and San Francisco Art Institute, and her writing and visual art have been featured in publications such as Buffalo Magazine, Readymade, Lucky, Bust Magazine, MacWorld, San Francisco Chronicle, Houston Gazette, and Knitty, and has appeared repeatedly on HGTV’s “Crafters: Coast to Coast,” DIY’s “Knitty Gritty,” and CBS’s “Evening Magazine.”
