Summer Programming in Italy (2015)

The Art Monastery spent three beautiful months in Italy in 2015, hosting three different programs. In July we organized a 2-week international theater festival, Caramanico Teatri D’Art. Artists from Dubai, NYC, Berlin, Brussels, and UK performed 6 days a week for two weeks sharing dance, theater, clowning, video, and music. From parades in the streets in Caramanico, to theaters in Pescara, to DJ/VJ parties at the monastery, it brought a lot of energy to the people of Abruzzo and the visiting artists.

The theater festival was followed by the AMP’s first ever Getaway. What’s that? A chance to come live like an Artmonk for a week–enjoy the ancient beauty of the monastery, hikes in the mountains of Abruzzo, amazingly fresh food, arts classes, yoga, meditation, massage, and community. It was a tremendously fun and nourishing week, stay tuned for the next one!

We closed the summer in Italy with AMP’s 4th annual Art Monastic Laboratory. This residential program consisted of 16 artist coming together for 8 weeks. True to the AMP’s core concepts we lived together exploring community, collaboratively created a new dance-theater piece, and delved into a range of different contemplative practices. As a community we laughed, shared ideas, encountered conflict, challenged each other, and grew together. We created the evening length show, Si Quis Sitit, during the first 6 weeks and then toured it around the region in Italy. Stay tuned for photos and videos!

Many thanks to our Italian hosts, ReTe, and the town of Caramanico Terme for a fantastic three months!
