Artmonk Retreat 2011

A crew of 26 Artmonks experienced the second annual Art Monastery spiritual retreat at the energetically vibrating Integratron in California. Actors, musicians, writers, artists, all. The coldness of the January Mojave desert was bone chillling. Over 10 days Joel and Michelle Levey guided, supported, cried, hugged us through multiple meditation practices to access those that worked best. Individual focus sharpened daily as each Artmonk deepened into silence. Hidden Valley in Joshua Tree National Park became even more sacred as personal journeys continued. Isa and Sarah’s soul food creations and the brushstroke beauty of the sunrise punctuated the senses. Solo contemplation blossomed into collaborative performance sessions and evening discussions on meditation and creativity. Hearts opened. Minds stilled. Energy shifted. Thanks was given. Open-house concerts started and ended our time, performers and audience blending twice with powerful and beautiful shared experiences. At the Hacienda Hotsprings we each imbued the Levey’s crystal heartstone with our love and what was learned, feeling the weight and light of all those before and behind us, without and within.
