“The Silent Art Residency CHANGED MY LIFE. I *just* registered for this summer and can’t wait to be back in this sacred container.”

What

This weeklong residency program is designed to offer you a supportive blend of structure and freedom to take your creative project to the next level within the unique intimacy of silence.

We will follow a daily schedule including morning meditation & singing, optional yoga, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The rest of the time, retreatants work individually on their own projects. The week concludes with a final sharing, where each person can share what they’ve created over the course of the week.

We believe this type of focused, supportive environment is an excellent way to create art. You will have designated periods of creative time each day, interspersed with healthy activity and rest. We have found that working in a contemplative space where other people are also diving into their creative practices, often super charges creativity and focus. In the silence, your inspiration will have plenty of space to bloom!

We have one large indoor movement space, which we will share between artists creating dance or theater. The retreat is set on 7 acres of land over looking the Connecticut River. So there will be plenty of outdoor spaces for moving, creating sound, or generally being inspired by nature!

Also consider the Artmonk Retreat + Silent Art Residency Combo (May 30-June 12).

Silent meditation retreat leading into a silent creative residency! Super charge both your meditation practice and your creative work. Read more about the Artmonk Retreat.

When

Who

Artists.

(We believe everyone is an artist.)

Whether you are all curiosity without an iota of experience or you are a seasoned professional, this week offers you the opportunity to develop your skills and, without the distraction of speaking, accomplish more than you thought possible.

The Art Monastery hosts visiting artists of all disciplines. Work spaces are available for soundmaking and for quiet, for visual art and dance/theater movement, in addition to the excellent outdoors landscape of our Vermont location.

Artistic feedback and contemplative support is available in one-on-one meetings with the Core Team.

Where

A truly special 7-acre farm on the banks of the Connecticut River, we will live in tents and in the 8-bedroom farmhouse. We will sit under the magical pear tree overlooking the river for morning meditation. The barn-turned-movement-space is available for movement-based practices as well as a variety of other shared and outdoor art-making spaces.

Accommodation

Sleep in a shared room, work in shared studio space. Contact us about the possibility of upgrading to a private sleeping space (according to availability).
